In April of this year I made a post about Axolotl, an international pioneer of innovative and creative metal, concrete, glass and timber products, based in Australia.  I recently received this announcement from them and although I don’t normally post architectural work I found this to be so lovely I couldn’t resist sharing.

Corymbia is a private guest-house set high on the hill surrounded by ancient Angophoras and Corymbias with views through Eucalypts and over the vineyards. Located only 160 kilometres or 2 hours drive north of Sydney near the township of Broke.

The homestead was hand-built over five years by one of the founding brothers of Axolotl, Kim Torma. Nestled into rocks at the high end of the 100-acre property, it is private and serene. Every adobe (mud-brick) was sourced from the property and made by hand. The mud-brick construction and meticulous carpentry are perfectly complemented by eclectic artwork, creating an ambiance which attracts many return visitors.​ Of course, the design is enhanced throughout with work by Axolotl. From the moment you are welcomed with farm fresh eggs and wine, to the last glance back as you leave the property you will be under Corymbia’s spell.”

“Color It” is a new online tool recently released from Fireclay that allows for the customization of their Cuerda Seca multicolor tile designs.  The tool provides a selection of over 150 unique designs, both traditional Moroccan and Mexican patterns and as well as some simple geometric, contemporary designs. There is a range of 80 lead-free glaze colors to choose from and once both patterns and colors are selected a proprietary wax resist technique is used to print a black outline on the Debris Series Recycled Ceramic Tile.

The Fireclay skilled artisans then hand glaze the colors of choice within the selected pattern and in approximately 4 weeks the handmade, one-of-a-kind material is shipped. The tile contain over 70% recycled materials, are available in 4” x 4” or 6” x 6” sizes and are recommended for both residential or commercial interior applications. .

Foscarini will be celebrating their 30th anniversary at an opening event on Saturday, May 18th in Foscarini Spazio Soho their new space in Soho, New York.  Collaborating with the company designer Ferruccio Laviani has created the interior and displays to redefine how architects, interior designers and residential consumers alike experience Foscarini.  Featured will be their installation, Algae created by the artist Stefano Arienti.  Also the newest Foscarini and Diesel lamps will be on site and available for purchase using a newly developed retail concept.  For those designers who will be in New York for NYDW this will be a wonderful opportunity to meet and celebrate with Foscarini’s owners Carlo Urbinati and Alessandro Vecchiato along with the designer Ferruccio Laviani and Stefano Artienti.

Treefrog Groove is a new collection of tactile and textured prefinished wood veneer laminates from Treefrog. Their laminates are made of a unique engineered wood process consisting of the most common and fastest-growing tree species to replicate the look and feel of exotic and often endangered species. Instead of paper the laminates have a wood veneer face with the result that sheet after sheet provides a reliable and consistent selection for design spaces of any size.

Groove has been added to the company’s collection of more than forty real wood veneer laminates. It is available in seven wood veneer looks including Wenge, Black Oak, new contemporary “Lati” options and in either 4’ x 8’ or 4’ x 10’ sized sheets. Terra Legno is not only one of the finest engineered hardwood flooring products on the market it is also one of the most beautiful.  Engineered wood flooring is no longer offered in a limited number of wood species, but after years of research and technology it is now available in a range of product with all the strength, stability, warmth and beauty of solid hardwood. The company manufactures their product through a process using younger and smaller trees rather than old growth hardwoods.

Motion 1 from Interlam is manufactured by applying natural wood, reconstituted Alpi veneers, melamine, or paintable melamine surfaces to MDF substrates. Through proprietary techniques, surfaces are created that create depth and texture. Two of the patterns shown are Quantum and Rough Hewn.

Quantum is a whimsical pattern reminiscent of matchsticks and Rough Hewn has a rustic appeal similar to that of barnwood. Quantum can be applied either vertically or horizontally and is available in eleven colors. while Rough Hewn can only be applied vertically and is available in three veneers. The Motion 1 product line is available in eleven colorways and nine patterns, in three thicknesses and is recommended for applications that include furniture, paneling, and doors.

The second edition to the Motion line was recently introduced with an initial twenty designs with a lot more to follow. The last image shown is Viper in antiqued copper from the Motion 2 line.
